Portfolio Entries For Illinois Professional Teaching Standard X

The competent teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates how choices and actions affect students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community and actively seeks opportunities to grow professionally.

Item One: Teacher Aiding Reflection (view entry)

This is a reflection I wrote on two things that I noticed and found interesting about my teacher aiding placement this semester. The two things that I noticed coming up in my journals most often were the way my teacher handled classroom management, and how she related to the extreme diversity in her classroom. I learned about these elements of teaching from my supervising teacher through observation and experience, as well as from my professor in the class I was doing the journaling for through discussions and comments he left in my journal. I found the experience of teacher aiding to be a wonderful learning experience in which I was able to observe different methods of handling the classroom.

Item Two: Lesson Reflection (view entry)

This is a reflection that I wrote on one of my lessons, and how it fits into the standards of DBAE. The reflection helped me to realize how I can plan to best fit standards, and it also helped me to recognize some of my typical lesson planning strategies. Reflecting on what I do helps me to pick out how I can make my work better, or how I can tailor it to work for specific students.
